It is not an
exaggeration to call archery one of the most famous sports in the world.
From Europe to
various parts of Asia and Africa, archery has been recognized among different
cultural backgrounds of people as a sport, a lifestyle and a means of survival.
It is not easy to predict when human beings first learned the use of a bow and
arrow. But, it can surely be said that the bow and arrow is connected to the history
of human civilization. In the primitive era, human beings used to take down
dangerous animals with this weapon. Today the art of archery has not been
forgotten. This is why people still want to learn the sport at Prince Albert
archery.
History
of Archery
Although archery
probably dates back 1000’s of years, the earliest people known to have used
bows and arrows were the Kushite’s. One of the first hunters was Nimrod was one
of the sons of Kush. Kush was the son of Ham, the son of Noah. Archery was adopted
as a means for hunting and warfare. In China, archery dates back to the Shang
dynasty 1600BCE. Archery seems to have arrived in Americas via Alaska, as early
as 3000 BCE, spreading south into the temperate zones as early as 2,000 BCE,
and was widely known among the indigenous peoples of North America from about 800
BCE.An archery game was widely practiced among the indigenous people, which involved
shooting at a hoop rolled with sticks. Points were scored based on how the
arrow landed. You don’t just learn the sport at Oudshoorn Archery.

Exercises
for Archery
The muscles most
commonly used in archery are the back and shoulder muscles, as well as the arms
and core muscles like the lower back and stomach muscles. Keeping these muscles
in good condition helps a lot in keeping your form and shape steady when practicing
the sport. A couple of simple exercises can help a lot, the most effective and
simple is the push-up (strengthens the back, arms and core muscles), then there
is the wide grip pull-ups (strengthens the biceps, latissimus back and front
shoulder muscles), one arm dumbbell rows and bent over barbell rows (strengthen
the lower back and major back muscles as well as the core). Some stretching
after training is always a very good practice as this helps with muscle
recovery. Here at Prince Albert
archery, keeping in great physical shape is a must.
